What I Do

Conference Interpreter

35 years of experience handling high-level, domain-specific assignments for:

  • International organisations
  • Trade and labour federations
  • Business clients
  • Media

Languages: French (A), English (B), German (C)

Credentials: EU-accredited, Member of AIIC

Managing Partner, Conference Interpreters International SRL

Partner since 2012 at Conference Interpreters International (Cii) in Brussels

Pioneered Brussels' only remote interpreting hub, using hard and soft consoles. Proudly platform-agnostic.

Coded Cii's new integrated proprietary platform (CRM, Event Management, Messaging, Recruitment, end-to-end Accounting)

Software Developer

Now: Mainly Python and PostgreSQL

Then: Java, CFML, Sybase SQL Anywhere, PowerBuilder

Pet Projects:

  • Ipso Facto — a comprehensive software suite that:
    • Helps shortlist interpreters for meetings based on language combination, team and booth-wide language coverage, ratings, past assignments, availability, and recruitment preferences
    • Manages requests, contracts, and scheduling
    • Currently used at the Council of Europe and Arte (Cii migrated to Magic ShERPa). Originally launched in 1996, it has gone through 3 major versions.
  • Magic ShERPa — Ipso Facto reloaded
    • Fully rebuilt in 2025 with modern stack + deep integrations (Odoo, Gmail/Drive/Calendar/Contacts, Slack) and AI—Cii now runs significantly faster and leaner.

What I Enjoy Doing Now (aside from vibe-coding)

Voice-Overs

Process: You provide a sound or video file in English or German; I return a professionally edited French voice-over according to your specifications.

Setup: Recorded in a professional soundproof booth (StudioBricks)

Equipment: Microphones: Neumann TLM170 R, Austrian Audio OC818, Sennheiser MKH 416; Preamps: SPL Crescendo Duo, SPL Frontliner; Noise gate: Drawmer DS201; Power conditioner: Furman PL-Plus CE; Audio Interfaces: Apogee Symphony Desktop

Speech-to-Speech Translation

Tools: Experimenting with SeamlessM4T, Whisper, and NLLB. Reviewing DeepL Voice, X-doc.AI Translive, Palabra.ai, Wordly AI, Talo, and others.

Goal: To consult with clients on use cases, gotchas, best practices, and model training.

If I Didn't Have a Day Job…

  • Write more haikus
  • Do more wildlife photography and birding
  • Listen to more audiobooks (I choose them by narrator)
  • Get onto the Bark Europa for 2 months, sail down to Tristan da Cunha in search of the Northern Rockhopper
